The Louis Stokes Visionary Award

The Louis Stokes Visionary Award is presented to individuals who are committed to community development and have:

Demonstrated an ability to provide leadership and vision which promotes community development and strong community life;

Demonstrated a lifelong personal and professional commitment to improve the quality of life for those who reside and work in communities such as Fairfax;

Demonstrated a proven track record in working collaboratively with residents and other stakeholders to build partnerships; and

Promoted the initiatives of urban communities such as Fairfax to a broader constituency.

“I chose to use recognizable human forms believing that man’s enemy to man is man, and that man’s progress can only be made through man. The human body is the most beautiful and complex creation ever made and as such, is highly philosophical. Subsequently, the sculpture, which is entitled “VISION” develops along stylized abstract forms incorporating both feminine and masculine features. The entire sculpture woven around a slanting column on a slant circular base depicts the leader striving to stand despite the odds.”
